INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
This course is designed to prepare prospective students to excel in the AP® Spanish Language course, as well as on the exam. The course is primarily for students who will be taking AP® the following year in their home schools. As well, the course serves as solid preparation in advanced language and culture for students who have already taken the AP® course.
For students who are not doing AP® prep Spanish Language (for the 2 week program starting the last week of June), we do offer two additional courses:
Intermediate Spanish Language and Culture.
AP® prep Spanish Literature.
Where?
Students have the opportunity to study abroad in the capital city of southern Spain, Seville, where they will discover firsthand the essence of Spain: flamenco, the scent of orange blossoms, flower-decked patios, Moorish palaces and beautiful gardens. Many students have called their time abroad the best experience of their life!
Highlights
All inclusive-package (24 hour support, airport pickup, housing with Spanish families, etc).
Learn about the customs of Spain by living with a carefully selected family. Students can live with a friend, or be paired up with a new one.
Experience the culture through interactive visits, as well as social and sporting activities.
1 day excursion to the coastal beach city of Cadiz + 1 day at the coastal beach city of Tavira (Portugal) (2 week program starting the last week of June).
Custom-designed excursions to other cities for groups travelling during dates outside of our program starting the last week of June.
Students can make friends in a fun and safe atmosphere with other international and Spanish students.
Students are able to challenge themselves and boost their resume for college applications.

What is my role in organizing this trip?
Teachers announce the trip at school, usually some time in advance. The trip may be a school sponsored trip, or a trip taken by the teacher outside of the school system. Teachers encourage students to consider the trip, and spread interest. They will normally hold an informational meeting with parents and students, to inform them about details. A Centro MundoLengua director can be on-site for the meeting, or available by Skype/phone. In terms of payments, this can be done online by each individual student (so teachers do not have to handle any money).
What exactly are my responsibilities as a chaperone during the trip?
Chaperones normally come to school each day, in order to check-in with their students. Some come at the beginning of class, while others choose to come during the break, or even after classes have ended. Chaperones normally accompany the students and Centro MundoLengua guides during cultural visits, as well as any excursions. In the event that a student becomes ill, Centro MundoLengua will always accompany him/her to the doctor. The chaperone will normally come along, for added support. In general, in case of any type of issue with students, Centro MundoLengua relies on the added advice and support of chaperones before taking action.
What are some of the incentives to travel?
Besides travelling for free, teachers can earn free courses and stipends. For teachers that travel with a group of at least 6 students, they receive the College Board AP® Teacher Workshop for free. For teachers that travel with at least 10 students, they receive an additional $800 stipend. Consult us for our conditions with teachers travelling with fewer than 6, or more than 10 students.
Will I have free time?
Absolutely. Given that our program is highly structured, you will find that you have a lot of free time to pursue outside interests, or to simply relax. Each group is assigned their own Centro MundoLengua coordinator who takes care of them. As well, there is always a program director onsite for added support. Some teachers use the time to study, investigate, get in shape, shop, catch up on summer reading, etc.
Do I need to buy flights for my group?
You are responsible for purchasing your own flights. It is very important to make sure all students have passports and secure your flights early. Southern Spain is one of the most popular destinations worldwide. The longer you wait, the more you are going to pay for flights. That being said, we can help. We work with an agent that can book flights for groups of at least 10 individuals total (for airlines, a group needs to be at least 10). If you have less than 10 in your group, you can either ask a local travel agent, or simply book flights online. We will pick you up at the arrival airport in Spain. For Seville, you should look for flights into Seville airport. It is possible to arrange pick-up in Jerez de la Frontera or Malaga airports, but there will be a surcharge. As well, it is possible to fly into Madrid and take the high-speed train down to Seville. Ask us for more details.
How do you determine the Spanish level of my students?
Before arrival, you students will take an online placement exam. This will help us determine their level. In addition, they will supply us with the number of years of high school Spanish that they have completed. In any case, this course is intended for students who will be going into AP® the following year at school, or in some cases who have already completed AP® by the time of this course.
What are the classes like for my students?
Above all else, they are interactive and communicative. Students develop a close relationship with both their teacher, as well as new friends in the class. Class sizes tend to be around 12 students (with a maximum of 15). Students have the opportunity to actually practice their Spanish by speaking a lot. They will study the language and culture at the same time. We will cover the main themes of the AP® course, as students practice integrating skill sets in writing, reading, speaking, and listening. Students will gain a definite advantage relative to their peers who have not completed this course, with a solid foundation for the coming year. Classes are not intended to give homework and exams. Students complete the majority (if not all) of their work in class.
What are some examples of the activities?
Do your students know how to salsa dance? How about flamenco? Do they like sports (kayak on the river, boats and bikes in the park)? Or are they more history buffs? How about a visit around the ancient city center, discovering its’ hidden gems (Cathedral of Seville, Royal Palace, old Jewish quarter, etc.)? In addition to the afternoon activities, your students will be able to meet other Centro MundoLengua participants during our nighttime program. This includes tapas nights, group dinners, musical concerts, movie nights, school dances, and special events.
What will my students do on the weekend?
This depends on when you study. For the program starting the last week of June, we take day trips (leaving in the morning and returning in the early evening). You are free to go with your students. You will spend one day visiting the coastal city of Cadiz, with its’ endless white sand beaches. We will tour the city center and visit the Tavira Tower. The rest of the day will be spent at the beach. You will also visit the coastal city of Tavira, in southern Portugal. This will be a day spent relaxing at the incredible beaches and enjoying the sun.
For groups that are choosing different dates, we can customize excursions. There are many possibilities, including Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Morocco, etc. We will work with you to design a program.
What are the families like?
You want your students to be immersed in the culture and language. This is the best manner! Host families have worked with us for many years, and are all carefully chosen and visited by our housing director. Most families live in middle-class apartments, with the usual comforts of life. Students will most likely share a room with a friend, or other student from the program. They will also most likely share a bathroom. Families make all of the meals for students, so this is an excellent opportunity to try many new home-cooked Spanish foods. We can also deal with special diets, but we need to know this in advance. Families also wash any clothes for students. Some families have children, whereas others don’t. Some have pets, and others no. Families come in all shapes and sizes. Our housing director is onsite every day, willing to help students with even the smallest of issues. Students develop close bonds with their families, and really love this aspect of the program. They also have the opportunity to practice their Spanish in a real-life setting, outside of the classroom.
How much free time will my students have?
One thing that students love is that this program combines the best of both worlds. They have the daily structure of their classes and activities, which also allows them to meet new friends, with some free time thrown in. Some students are more independent than others, and relish this time to explore the city, make friends with the locals, enjoy sports, shopping, etc. See a typical day in this section, but rest assured that they will have some free time every day for themselves.
Will my students meet other international and Spanish students?
Absolutely! Although our Seville program tends to have mostly American students from all over (program starting the last week of June), we do have exchanges with local Spanish high schools. This means that students will meet Spanish students during language and sports exchanges. For programs during different dates, it depends, but we tend to have a mix of American, Canadian, and European students at any given time. We also have many exchanges set up with local Spanish schools.
How much supervision will my students have?
All students count on 24 hour / 7 day a week supervision from our multi-lingual staff. Their safety is our top priority. As such, all students will be required to carry a Centro MundoLengua ID card with emergency phone contacts. Their families will also have this information. They will be able to rely on an extensive network of directors, teachers, and coordinators to facilitate their stay in Seville. We also will be checking in with students on a daily basis, during the classes and activities.
