Do you organize pick-ups at the airport?
Round-trip transport from the airport/train station/bus station is not included (for teachers travelling with students, this is included). Please remember to confirm with us your arrival date/time/location. This will be extremely important for those teachers that are staying with families. You will go directly to your host family and we will need to inform them of your arrival so they can plan to be at home to receive you.
Where will the classes take place?
The classes take place at a partner school of ours in the center of Seville, very close to the charming neighborhood of Santa Cruz, on calle Fabiola. As we maintain agreements with many local schools, please consult with us before each session to confirm the actual classroom location.
Who are the instructors?
Consultants will be confirmed after receiving the endorsed consultant list from the College Board. The consultant will be a distinguished, College Board-certified teacher who has taught AP® Spanish Language for many years.
How will the classes work?
The actual classes will not start until Monday of the second week. The first week will be comprised of cultural and social visits only. Classes will run from Monday until Friday of the second week, 6 hours per day, for a total of 30 hours.
Are College Board materials included?
College Board materials are included, as well as special materials developed by Centro MundoLengua´s professors for our student AP® prep program.
Will I receive a certificate?
All participants will receive a College Board certificate upon completion of the program for the total number of AP contact hours (30 total).
How does the credit process work?
We have an agreement with the University of California at Riverside. On the first day of class, we will hand out to all participants a form. The fee for these 5.0 quarter units of credit (3 semester hours) has typically hovered around $325-$350 total. Payment can be made by credit card (Visa or MC). There will be some additional work required if you are opting for the credits and the instructors will let you know what is expected.
What about cultural activities?
We will review this program on arrival, but expect to delve into the history of Spain and take back ideas for your students. This is one of the nicest additions to the program and something that cannot be gleaned from sitting in a classroom in the states or abroad doing a similar program. All entrances are included, so there is no need to budget extra money for this. For teachers travelling with spouses, etc., it might be possible for them to join us on certain activities. We will let you know in advance, in addition to any related cost.
How will the cultural activities work?
Teachers should plan to arrive on Sunday of the first week. We will meet early on Monday for our welcome reception and breakfast. We will also have our orientation this day, as well as cultural visits in the city. The entire first week will be comprised of cultural and social visits. Teachers are then free to travel starting on Friday afternoon of the first week. The second week will be a mixture of morning classes and afternoon cultural and social visits.
What will I do during the weekend?
The weekend is free for you to plan travel on your own. This is an excellent opportunity to visit Andalusia, southern Portugal or even Lisboa, Morocco, Barcelona, Valencia, etc. The possibilities are endless, as the cities where our programs take place are well connected. For teachers that travel with students, you are invited to join us on the excursions to Cadiz and Portugal.
What if I have opted for staying with a family (only available in Seville)?
You wanted to be immersed in the culture and language. This is the best manner! Host families have worked with us for many years, and are all carefully chosen and visited by our housing director. Most families live in middle-class apartments, with the usual comforts of life. You will have your own room. You will most likely share a bathroom. Your family will make all of your meals for you, so this is an excellent opportunity to try many new home-cooked Spanish foods. We can also deal with special diets, but we need to know this in advance. Your family will also wash any clothes for you.
Are there any other types of accommodation?
We can help with finding economical hotels or apartments located close to the school. Please let us know if you need help.
Can I come with my students?
Each year, we have a group of high school students coming from different areas to participate in our AP® prep program (AP® Spanish Language prep and AP® Spanish Literature prep in Seville). We are available if you would like to discuss planning a group trip for your students for either spring or summer to our schools. We offer programs for all levels of students, in addition to educational tours, volunteer opportunities, school exchanges, etc.
Are there incentives for travelling with students?
If you travel with at least 6 students, you receive the teacher workshop free. If you travel with 10 students, you receive both the workshop free and $800 stipend. For larger groups, there are additional incentives.
