PROGRAMS FOR SPANISH TEACHERS FAQS

Centro MundoLengua offers unique, high-quality trainings for Spanish teachers.

On one hand, our AP® Spanish Language and Culture and our AP® Spanish Literature and Culture courses for Spanish teachers are the only programs of their type recognized by the College Board in Spain. The programs are taught by experienced teachers from the USA and facilitate a full immersion for teachers on a linguistic and cultural level, as well as offering the chance for teachers to network and make contacts with colleagues from around the world.

On the other hand, our Spanish teacher training programs delivered in conjunction with the University of Cadiz are recognized with an official certificate upon completion.

Spanish teachers have the chance to participate in both programs free of charge if they come to Spain together with a group of their students who participate in Centro MundoLengua’s custom high school programs.

Spaces in the workshops are extremely limited (15 pax each) and the demand is high. Therefore we encourage you to sign up as soon as possible in order to secure your place. The registration process is completed through Cvent. Follow the links below for registration:

Deadlines date for registration are May 25th, 2024 (session starting on June 24th) and June 9th (session starting July 8th). You can complete and manage the registration process directly on our website.

If you travel together to Spain with a group of at least 6 students, you will be able to participate in the AP® Spanish teacher workshops (either in Madrid or in Sevilla) or the Spanish teacher training course (in Cadiz) for free. If you travel together with 10 students, you will receive an additional financial stipend to cover your travel costs while you and your students simultaneously participate in your respective programs. Get in touch for more details.

Yes. Generally speaking, a deposit corresponding to 20% of the total program price is required to reserve a space for one of our study abroad programs for Spanish teachers. However, the amount can change depending on the program. Please get in touch in order to clarify the deposit value in your specific case.

You will receive an automated message that confirms we have successfully received your registration. If you have not done so already, you should pay your program deposit at this stage. You must also provide us with a copy of your passport, a recent photograph and a travel itinerary in case you have chosen to stay with a host family during your program here in Spain (only available for teachers travelling with a group of students).

First you must ensure that your passport will remain valid for the duration of your program (and in some cases up to 6 months after the scheduled departure date for your program). You will need to send us a copy of your passport along with a recent photograph of yourself. Afterwards, you must process your visa application if necessary. The next step is to search for return flights to and from Spain. Flights are not included in your program and neither will we make reservations on your behalf. When you have your full travel details and if you have chosen to stay with a host family here in Spain, you should forward your itinerary to us so that we can inform your host family of your time of arrival.

If you eventually decide not to participate in the Spanish teacher program you have already registered for and wish to cancel, you have three options; confirming cancellation by email, filling out our withdrawal form available on our website or cancelling via the student portal. For more information concerning refunds, please consult our legal terms and conditions.

You are able to make any change to the contracted program you like as long as you notify Centro MundoLengua of the desired changes 45 days prior to the beginning of the program at the very latest, excluding personalized programs. In this case, please get in touch.

After having paid the deposit to reserve your space for your program, the remaining amount should be paid in full at least 8 weeks before the program start date. If you complete the online registration less than 8 weeks prior to the beginning of your program for Spanish teachers, you must complete the payment for the program in full as soon as you receive confirmation of your participation from us. All associated bank charges must be covered by the teacher.

In some cases we can offer flexible payment plans for our programs for Spanish teachers. Get in touch for more information about this possibility.

Spanish teachers are able to benefit from scholarships offered by various entities: SCOLT, SWCOLT, Central States, California Language Teachers´ Association, AATSP, ACTFL and Pacific Northwest Council for Languages.

They will cover the cost of tuition, study materials, College Board/University Certification and participation in an extracurricular activity program. They will not include the cost of flights, weekend excursions, credit recognition, or health insurance.

The quickest and most convenient payment method we offer is debit/credit card payment through our secure website. We also accept payment through PayPal, checks (made payable to Centro MundoLengua) and bank transfers. Remember that in order to confirm your participation in one of our programs for Spanish teachers, you must complete the deposit and pay the remaining balance at the latest 8 weeks before the start date of your program.

Our AP® programs for Spanish teachers include 30 hours of class, an official certificate from the College Board, class materials and an extracurricular activity program. Participants are responsible for for finding their own accommodation.

Our Spanish teacher training program in Cadiz includes 40 hours of class, an official certificate from the University of Cadiz, class materials, and an extracurricular activity program.

Firstly, don’t go overboard with your packing. For all our programs for Spanish teachers, we advise bringing informal clothing without it appearing sloppy and neglected. Please be careful not to wear too short or revealing clothing during visits to some monuments and sites; places of worship will not grant you entry if you fail to dress appropriately.

Create a basic plan to mix and match essential items of clothing that you can simply use to add extra layers when it gets cold during the night and in the mornings. We advise you to bring at least one smart outfit (not too formal) that you can wear if you go out in the evenings.

  • Flight tickets.
  • Passport.
  • Cash (in Euros).
  • A backpack for excursions.
  • A wallet or purse to carry money and some form of identification while in Spain.
  • Telephone.
  • A laptop computer.
  • A bag for dirty and used clothing.
  • Comfortable day-to-day clothing and clothing for nighttime activities (don’t forget a pair of dark-coloured socks, a pair of light-coloured socks, underwear etc.).
  • Jacket or sweatshirt and clothing suitable for the cold.
  • Pyjamas and slippers (people don’t often walk around barefooted in their homes in Spain).
  • Bathing suit, beach towel and flip flops if your program takes place during summer.
  • Umbrella.
  • Travel socket adaptor if you are travelling from outside of Europe.
  • An elegant outfit for evening activities (it doesn’t need to be too formal).
  • Sports clothing.
  • A good pair for shoes suitable for walking.
  • Sunscreen and after-sun.
  • Personal hygiene products (toothbrush and tooth paste, dental floss, shower gel, shampoo etc…). You can purchase them in Spain, but it is a good idea to bring some travel-size personal hygiene products.
  • An additional pair of glasses or contact lenses if you use them. You should also perhaps consider bringing a bottle of cleaning solution.
  • If you are receiving or undergoing medical treatment, let us know so that we can help you in case of urgency. Bring enough medication to last for the whole program, particularly if you require a very specific brand. If you suffer from travel sickness, bring appropriate medication as we travel by bus to our excursions. All information concerning your medical history will be treated as confidential.
  • A couple of hand towels if you use them. Bathroom furnishings in Spain often omit them.
  • Mosquito nets are not widely used in Spain. If you are severely allergic to mosquitos, you can bring an effective insect repellent for your skin, provided that using it does not have a negative reaction on your skin.
  • Material to read during the journey.
  • A small gift for your host family can be a nice touch.
  • IMPORTANT: Include clothing for one of two days in your hand luggage just in case your luggage goes missing. All absolutely essential items should be kept within your hand luggage.

Check the standard voltage in your country and compare it to Spain. For example, American program participants will need a socket adaptor as well as a voltage converter, as the Spanish electrical system uses 220v, while the system in the USA only uses 110v.

We recommend that you to arrive on the Sunday prior to the beginning of your classes in order to have a good number of hours to adjust to your new surroundings, and leave on the Saturday following the end of your classes.

Sunday is typically a day of rest and no program activities are scheduled.

If you travel together with a group of your students, airport transfers are included. If you travel alone to participate in one of Centro MundoLengua’s programs for Spanish teachers, we encourage you to use a taxi or an app (such as Uber or Cabify).

  • Sevilla. The airport is situated around 15-20 minutes in car from the city center. There is only one terminal, meaning that all arrivals pass through the same gate. The easiest option is to get a taxi: all operate a fixed tariff from the airport to the first stop en route to the inner city, though the ultimate price can be dependent on additional items of luggage, whether or not you are travelling during the night hours etc. You should expect to pay roughly 25-30 Euros. Leaving a tip is not necessary or expected. There is also a bus service to the city center with several stops along the way. A single ticket costs only 4 Euros, and you can of course catch a taxi to your final destination after getting off at the bus stop.
  • Madrid. The airport is situated around 25-30 minutes in car from the city center. You have multiple transport options: taxi, local rail network, the metro or the bus. The taxi service has a fixed tariff of 30 Euros for journeys to any point within the area marked out by the M-30 ring road (the city center).
  • Sevilla. The Andalusian capital only has one long-distance train station, which is Santa Justa. Its location is very central and is connected to the rest of the city via an urban bus network. The easiest thing to do is to take a taxi to your destination; it will be a short journey that will likely cost no more than 10 Euros.
  • Madrid. There are two main train stations; Atocha and Chamartín. Both are connected to the rest of the city via the metro system. There are also taxis outside of both train stations.
  • Sevilla. There are two main bus stations; the Plaza de Armas and the Prado de San Sebastián. From both stations, it is possible to take either a taxi or bus to your final destination. If you take a bus, you may have to walk a bit from the final stop.
  • Madrid. The Estación Sur de Autobuses (also known as Méndez Álvaro) is the main bus terminal for the capital of Spain. It is connected to the rest of the city by bus and metro. It also has taxis outside.

We recommend that you to arrive on the Sunday prior to the beginning of your classes in order to have a good number of hours to adjust to your new surroundings, and leave on the Saturday following the end of your classes.

Transfers from/to airport are not included. We encourage you to use a taxi or an app (such as Uber or Cabify).

Generally speaking, they are teachers that teach in American or international schools around the world. You will meet teachers not just from the USA, but also from Canada, Israel, South Korea, etc. The workshop is designed for both new and experienced AP® Spanish teachers.

The sessions will take place in our own facilities or in those of one of our partner organizations. They are all air-conditioned, well lit, feature projectors and have internet access. Furthermore, they are located in central locations within their respective cities. The exact address will be shared with you when your registration is successfully completed.

We at Centro MundoLengua have the fortune to work with some of the very best and most experienced College Board instructors. Ken Stewart, from North Carolina, has collaborated with us from the beginning. We have also worked with Laura Zinke from Arizona, Maritza Sloan from Missouri, and María Vázquez from New Jersey, Get in touch with us to find out who will be the instructor of your session.

The College Board materials are included. The materials may be sent in advance electronically.

Participants that complete the program will receive an official certificate from the College Board with the total number of AP® study hours (note: if you miss class time, these hours will be deducted from the total on your final official certificate).

We will give each participant an application form on the first day of class for credits from the University of California at Riverside Extension with whom we have a formal agreement. The price of these 5.0 quarterly credits (a little more than 3 semester credits) is normally around 325-350 US$ in total. Payment can be made via credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or by a personal check. There is additional work to be completed if you choose to apply for these credits. The instructors will inform you of what is expected of you in this case.

In Sevilla, Centro MundoLengua has an open study room in our facility that you can use to study in if you desire. This will not be an option in Madrid, but the city is full of public libraries.

Participants in our Spanish teacher training program come from all over the world. Some are very experienced, some are beginners. Our practical teacher training courses are intended for those who wish to teach Spanish in the near future in spite of not having existing experience in the field (basic level) and for Spanish teachers with extensive experience teaching Spanish as a foreign language (advanced level).

Our Spanish teacher training course takes place on the campus of the University of Cadiz in the south of Spain. Cadiz is the ideal city for a Spanish-as-a-foreign-language teaching course, thanks to its incredible culture, architecture, history and status as the oldest continuously inhabited city in Western Europe. In Cadiz, participants can:

  • Enjoy the countless tapas bars across the city, with a special emphasis on the freshest seafood one can imagine.
  • Discover the diverse delights of Cadiz’s food market as you wander from stall to stall with the best seafood, fruits and gourmet products in Spain.
  • Soak up the sun down on one of the city’s numerous white-sand urban beaches.
  • Chat with the friendly locals famed for their kindness and hospitality.

All teachers are accredited professors at the University of Cadiz.

Materiales are included.

You will receive a certificate from the University of Cadiz.

It is possible to receive credits on this course. Get in touch with us for more information.

You will be able to use the library at the University of Cadiz, but you will not be able to borrow books on loan.

We will make a final revision of the program upon your arrival, but get ready to dive straight into Spain’s rich history to come back with tons of ideas for your students. Our activity program is one of the more enjoyable extras we offer with the courses, and is something that is not usually offered with other Spanish teacher training courses. This course doesn’t just take place in the classroom, but also in the streets along with all the locals you meet.

You will have the weekends free that you can use to travel as you like. This provides an excellent opportunity to see more of Andalusia, the south of Portugal and Lisbon, Morocco, Barcelona, Valencia etc. The possibilities are endless, given that the cities where our courses take place are very well connected. Teachers that travel with students have the option to join us on the excursions that we organize for them.

Entry to the tourist attractions that we visit is included, meaning you will not need to pay more money. However, we do offer optional activities that you can participate in for an additional fee.

International calls are not a problem. As you probably know, you can use telephone applications to contact your family using a wifi connection at no extra cost. No matter what, remember not to use your phone’s data and instead connect to a local wifi network.

For small amounts and purchases made in small businesses, yes. In your country of origin you can exchange your local currency for Euros perhaps at a better rate than you will be able to get in Spain, even though the entity you use may take a couple days to process the exchange. Think ahead and consider how much money you will need to bring to Spain. Between 100 and 200 Euros per week is normally more than enough. In any case, the majority of goods and services can be purchased with a credit or debit card in Spain.

Bear in mind that your bank may charge a commission for activity conducted abroad.

Our programs for Spanish teachers are delivered in safe cities. We have hosted many students and not once has anything truly serious happened. The cities in which we operate are tourist-friendly and the local authorities do a great job of guaranteeing a safe environment for everybody. Late in the evening when the temperatures cool during the hottest times of the year, everybody goes out into the streets to socialize, to go to the cinema, to share some food and drink with friends…. Because of this, you can always count on there being a large number of people walking around the peaceful streets until the early hours of the morning. The only thing that we advise is that you take care of your belongings in areas filled with people in order to avoid theft and pickpocketing. This is not common and you shouldn’t worry, but please remain alert and vigilant.

You will be given the number of an emergency contact from Centro MundoLengua. If there is a legitimate and immediate danger to your state of wellbeing, you can call the number 112 without charge in Spain.

Health insurance is not included, but you are able to purchase health insurance with us for an additional fee if you like.

It covers hospital fees, medical treatment and transport for up to 60,000 euros per illness or injury during your program in Spain. Likewise it also covers transport, food and accommodation for up to and including 10 days for one of your relatives in case you contract an illness that puts your life at risk or in case you suffer an injury that requires hospitalization. Get in touch for more information.

In addition to the photos you and your colleagues take, we have a photographer at Centro MundoLengua that will accompany you to some of the activities. We will normally send you all images taken of your group approximately one week after the program concludes. If you have any special interest in a specific image (i.e. a photo of yourself in a certain landmark), feel free to communicate such a request to a member of the Centro MundoLengua team.

Get in touch and we will inform you of the benefits that we reserve for our most loyal teachers.

Get in touch with us to give us more details about your situation; we can offer you a personalized program so that your students can get the most out of the experience.

At Centro MundoLengua we work with teachers who share their experiences with us with other instructors who are interested in coming to Spain. If you would like to work with us to organize future study abroad trips or other courses in Spain with your students after you have completed your program, let us know and we will inform you of the benefits and rewards you could potentially obtain.
